Taming of the Shrew continues

After a strong first week of performances, Theatre Antigonish’s production of The Taming of the Shrew returns for a second week at the Bauer Theatre.
The classic comedy by William Shakespeare, told in this adaption set in the 1950s, tells the story of Katharina and Petruchio, two headstrong ,stubborn individuals, who become engaged in a courtship that is unlike any other. The two battle it out in a love story that sometimes can seem like an all out brawl. In a highly entertaining story, these two complex characters will keep you guessing who is truly in control in this relationship until the very end.
Leading this cast of 27 is Ginny Pottie as the “Shrew” herself, and Kristian DeAngelis as the bachelor Petruchio. In supporting roles, Kate’s younger sister Bianca is portrayed by both Christina Appleby and Tia Andriani on alternating nights. The threeduelling bachelors vying for Bianca’s love, Lucentio, Hortensio, and Gremio are portrayed by Myles Chisholm, Eric Scarffe, and Rob Wolf respectively.
The show is expertly directed by on-screen and stage veteran Shelley Thompson, who has guided and shaped the play with the help of amazing costume and light design, along with tireless stage managers and a unique adaption of the play using a modernized setting and theme. The production also features a live band, playing some classic 1950s favourites throughout the show.
After performing this past week on Thursday to Sunday evenings with a special matinee for local high school students, the production returns this Thursday, Feb. 17 to Sunday, Feb. 20.
