For music artists trying to get their start online, it is a crowded, competitive world out there. With each new hit song released, there are hundreds of aspiring singers with a video camera attempting to cover it in the slim chance they will get noticed. So to help you find some of the diamonds in the rough, here are some amazing covers to check out on YouTube during your Thanksgiving down time.
Adele - Someone Like You: Covered by Charlie Puth and Emily Luther Now you must be thinking, nobody could possibly come close to Adele’s vocals on this track. However, this duet is as close as it gets. Luther in particular shines here in a video made for a Perez Hilton competition. It has already gained over 1 million views in less than a week.
Coldplay - Fix You: Covered by Boyce Avenue and Tyler Ward These two independent artists have made a living doing cover songs, rejecting multiple mainstream record deals. In their first recording session together, they remake an emotional classic and do it justice. The timing is perfect, as the song was just performed on the hit Fox show Glee and with the upcoming release of Coldplay’s new album Mylo Xyloto.
Foster the People - Pumped Up Kicks: Covered by Jayme Dee This blonde country girl with an old soulful voice delivers a stripped down acoustic version of this indie rock tune. She lists her major influence as Amy Winehouse, and its not that big a stretch to see the comparisons.
Look At Me Now - Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, and Busta Rhymes: Covered by Karmin Music Most likely at least half of the people who have heard this song have tried to rap Busta Rhymes’s verse and ended up failing miserably. Well not Amy from Karmin Music, a two person band from Boston. She absolutely nails the rap and will have you out of breath just listening to it.
Rolling in the Deep - Adele: Covered by Ryan Beatty Of the countless Bieber wannabe’s out there today, Beatty sets himself apart and may soon be a star in his own right with a recently signed recording contract. What makes this cover most impressive is that it is done completely acapella. While on his channel also check out his cover of Ingrid Michaelson’s song The Way I Am, a duet with his sister Jenni.
Skyscraper - Demi Lovato: Covered by Christina Grimmie This power ballad took Grimmie five hours to record in her room, as she attempted to perfect each note. Displaying impressive vocals, she’s definitely got some talent. Whether she did get it perfect or not is up to you.
Good Life - OneRepublic: Covered by Alex Goot and Megan Nicole The harmonies between these two make this feel good song feel even better. Megan Nicole is also the opener on tour with Boyce Avenue, so she is definitely in good company.
You and I - Lady Gaga: Covered by Cimorelli This group of six talented sisters have released over eighty covers, and this is just their most recent. The sisters have also just landed a record deal, so check them out so you can you heard them before the rest of the world.
How to Love - Lil Wayne: Covered by Justin Bieber Now stick with me people for just a second before we go trashing the Biebs. His remixed cover of this Lil Wayne hit shows some maturity in his voice, and he no longer sounds like a girl. He carries it off well and shows he can actually rap.
