Last week, Antigonish got one step closer to becoming Kraft Hockeyville, a prize that comes with $100, 000 to upgrade the local arena, an NHL pre-season game held in that arena, and CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada broadcast from the town.
Antigonish and Conception Bay, Newfoundland, each made it in to the top ten from the Atlantic region, and voting for the top five ended last Sunday.
This Saturday evening, the top five communities will be announced during game two of CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada, and voting for the top ten will begin immediately after the show.
The town is hopeful that a top five spot is in their future, and if the decorated windows of every business on Main Street are any indication, it may be a reality.
If Antigonish is successful on Saturday night, they’ll need as much support as they can get in the two-day time period for voting. Last year, Dundas, Ontario was the winning community, with just over a million votes.
Voting begins at midnight on Saturday evening and ends at 11:59 p.m. on Monday.
