Kin Games 2011

This past weekend, 32 StFX human kinetics students traveled to London, Ontario, to take part in the 2011 Kin Games.
21 other universities from across Canada attended the games. StFX was the only school representing the Maritimes.
Each university was split up into three separate teams to take part in low organized sporting competitions.
The events were flag football, futsol, European handball, ultimate Frisbee, ball hockey, and inner tube water polo. StFX competed in the final three events.
Each of the StFX teams had an impressive record, meeting each of the other school’s talent and intensity.
Even though none of the StFX teams made it to the finals, all of the scores were close and the larger schools were impressed with StFX’s abilities and remarkable school spirit.
The opening ceremonies consisted of a dance off between paired up universities.
StFX was the first school to take the stage and show off their uniquely choreographed dance. They were battling UBC.
StFX’s dance created chaos in the theatre. Applause erupted when StFX’s song switched from “The Time” by Black Eyed Peas, to “X Gonna Give it to Ya” by DMX.
The team was told by several other teams throughout the weekend that StFX’s dance was the most memorable.
The captain of each school voted for their favourite dance and StFX was awarded the Captain’s Choice for best dance crew.
Overall, including the judges scores, StFX came in fourth in the dance off and McMaster University took the first prize trophy.
The academic challenge was the final part of this exciting weekend of competition between kinetics students from across the country.
StFX made it to the finals in this competition, and although they competed admirably, the University of Toronto took home the academic trophy. StFX came in fifth overall for academics.
Other awards included the Spirit Award, which took into account the dance off and overall spirit throughout the entire weekend. U of T took home this award. StFX took fifth place out of the 22 schools in this category.
The Jockstrap was awarded to the school that accumulated the most points throughout the sporting competitions. This award was granted to Western University.
The Shoe Award, which was awarded to U of T for most overall points gained over the entire weekend. This award recognized how well the school did in their sports games, the academic challenge, school spirit, and the surprise sport (a relay race through an inflatable obstacle course).
Also available to all of the students competing over the weekend were complimentary lunches and suppers, information booths on the Ontario Kinesiology Association, transportation, ambassadors who acted as tour guides, and free massages.
This conference was an amazing opportunity for kinetics students from across Canada to meet and compete in a friendly and spirited manner, and StFX represented their school and the Maritime provinces with style and class.
