Oprah’s big secret revealed

Many fans of Oprah Winfrey would have believed that they knew the popular talk show host, philanthropist, and cultural icon inside and out.
After being open and honest about many demons in her past such as the sexual abuse towards her by family friends, and giving birth to a child at the young age of fourteen, many thought, what could she have left to hide?
That question was asked recently when promos for an upcoming show indicated that she would reveal a dark secret that “shook her to the core.”
Rampant speculation ensued, and wild extravagant stories ran through all means of media and social networking, claiming tales of infidelity, drug abuse, marriage, a love child, and numerous other stories that fans believed could tarnish Oprah’s squeaky clean image forever.
The day of the show finally came and all speculation was put aside. As the audience audibly gasped and raised shocked hands, Oprah revealed in a tantalizingly slow fashion the story of her long-lost half sister Patricia. Moments later, to the shock and surprise of those in attendance and watching from home, she brought Patricia out on stage, the two sisters together in public for the first time.
Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Patricia was never given a break growing up. Directly from birth, Patricia was put in the adoption circuit by Oprah’s mother. Her mother, who was also interviewed on the show, said she had returned a few days later to the adoption center, second guessing her actions, but alas she was already taken. After seven years of foster homes, Patricia was finally adopted into a stable household.
Patricia proceeded to have her first child, a girl, at the age of 17. She tells Oprah "I had my daughter very young, and my whole goal with wanting to have my daughter is to have a part of me—to be able to look at her and see a part of me,".
She had her second child, a boy, six years following the birth of her daughter. To this day, she has single-handidly raised the two children and has also juggled two jobs.
At the age of 20, Patricia decided to look for her birth mother. After an unsuccessful first attempt, she gave up on the prospect of ever finding her. However in 2007 she was encouraged by her children to dig a little deeper.
Patricia contacted numerous agencies and eventually received information about her family. She discovered that she had three siblings, two of which had passed. These two turned out to be Oprah’s deceased brother Jeffrey, and sister Pat (also eerily named Patricia).
After a discouraging message from her birth mother, it didn’t look like Patricia was going to be able to meet her immediate family. However, that same day, while watching the news, Patricia matched up the missing pieces.
She witnessed a local news interview with Oprah’s mother, who was discussing raising Oprah and her siblings. Patricia and her son figured out through the information on the news that Oprah could possibly be her half sister. Time passed and Patricia couldn’t get through to her mother. Things changed when news came to her that her niece owned a restaurant in Milwaukee called Pat’s Rib Place.
After the connection and the DNA test between Patricia and her niece Alisha, it was certain that there was a relation between Pat and Oprah. For months, members of Oprah’s family new about Pat, but they never released the information to Oprah.
When Oprah finally found out about her half sister she stated “"I was nine years old at the time, living with my father in Nashville, and didn't even know my mother was pregnant ... So imagine my shock just a few months ago. It was the end of October, right before Thanksgiving, [when] I found out that I have another sister living just 90 minutes away in Milwaukee. What's even more unbelievable is that she has the same name as my first sister who passed away, Patricia."
Oprah has stated that she is currently still in slight shock over these events, as is the rest of the world. However, she is slowly developing a relationship with Patricia, and they plan to spend a lot of quality time together over the upcoming months.
